What “share of answer” means — and why it's replacing rankings

For twenty-five years the question was where do I rank? The new question is am I the answer? When someone asks ChatGPT or Google’s AI which contractor to hire, they don’t get ten links — they get a recommendation. Share of answer is how often that recommendation is you.

Why rankings stopped telling the whole story

Ranked links still matter, but they describe a page of options. An AI answer describes a choice that’s already been made for the buyer. If your business never surfaces in that answer, the rest of your SEO is being read by fewer and fewer people.
